The conduct of the vicar's wife, an ex-actress shocks the local go-gooder, particularly when an actor colleague, now in the services, turns up at the vicarage. Add in a wayward main, the bishop, the curate who has come to take the sermon, a German prisoner of war in disguise and a vicar in his underwear and you are assured of a laugh a minute.
